Chapter 420 Breakup [1]

The sun hung high without a cloud in the sky.

"I\'m…. sorry….."

The cafe bustled with activity, attention fixed on the commotion that just arose.

"Save your apologies."

It was a great day.

"Please don\'t show your face in front of me ever again."

With that, Amelia grabbed her purse and walked away, leaving Brandon alone at the table, surrounded by curious glances and whispers.

Everyone around him knew who he was. They knew who Amelia was as well.

After all, the cafe he was in was frequented by teenagers of every academy nearby.

There were even some Imperial Academy students, who had obviously recognized him.

Brandon blinked his eyes, then sipped on his drink.

\'This is for the best.\'

He paid no glances to the curious gaze around him. He could hear their whispers and murmurs.

Standing up, Brandon was just about to leave, when someone poked his shoulder.

"...?"

Turning around, what greeted his sight was a woman, with black hair.

"You…."

Her purple eyes flickered, and it seemed like she wanted to walk away at the moment.

"Sarah?"

"H–Hey, I…. saw that."

"Yeah, long time no see."

Brandon scanned her outfit—a simple white shirt under a black apron.

"You work here?"

"Yeah," she nodded, clearing her throat. "And…. you forgot to pay."

For both drinks.

The second semester started.

There were new additions to class A.

Of course, it was Claire and Rachel, who had ascended to the A ranks after testing their cores.

But that wasn\'t important at the moment.

After all, the news of Brandon and Amelia\'s breakup quickly spread like wildfire.

Students, without much else to obsess over, started formulating theories, even spreading rumors of why the breakup even happened.

—Did you hear? Apparently, she was the one who left him.

—Really? I heard he was acting distant, hardly responding to her messages….

The rumors only grew more elaborate.

Some claimed he\'d been seen with another girl. Others swore they saw Amelia spending more time in the library with a study group.

No one really knew the truth, but that didn\'t stop them from speculating.

—Hey, isn\'t this your chance?

—Huh?

—Oh, come on. We all know you have a crush on Brandon.

For Brandon, the whispers followed him.

Even during his first lecture, he could feel eyes on him, people darting glances his way when they thought he wouldn\'t notice.

However, Brandon paid them no heed at all, keeping his focus on the lecture, though it was clear the attention wasn\'t going anywhere.

In any case, the second semester officially increased the difficulty.

Brandon had to actually pay attention this time, there were complex concepts even he didn\'t have a grasp on, yet knew it would help him.

While he couldn\'t create new skills, configuring circuits was possible—meaning, he could boost the output, while keeping the mana usage at the lowest possible.

Amelia, meanwhile, faced her own fair share of stares and murmurs.

But she walked through them calmly, keeping her expression neutral, as if none of it bothered her.

Amelia kept her pace steady, eyes fixed ahead, though the whispered conversations trailed after her.

—Do you think he\'ll start talking to other girls now?

—I\'ve had a crush on him since Astrea….

As Amelia passed by, the girls\' chatter came to an abrupt halt.

They exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from excitement to awkward silence as they realized she\'d heard every word.

"...."

Amelia kept her eyes forward.

She knew they were watching her, perhaps waiting to see if she would react, but she gave them nothing.

She walked past them with quiet composure, ignoring the curious glances that followed her.

Behind her, the girls lowered their voices, murmuring among themselves once more. Read latest stories on empire

—Do you think she\'s okay?

—Did she hear us?

This wasn\'t going to die down anytime soon.

Lectures in the afternoon continued.

The morning subjects introduced; Elemental Flux Dynamics, Temporal Manipulation, Advanced Circuit Symmetry.

While currently, Brandon was taking a lecture for duelists.

Brandon leaned back in his seat, nodding at Raven and Claire.

He could see Amelia and Belle a few rows ahead, both absorbed in their notes.

He kept his distance, trying to avoid any awkward glances

However, even in a class filled with duelists, it was inevitable.

The entire academy practically heard of the news already.

In any case, Brandon fixed his gaze ahead. The instructor, Elliot Musk, stood on the podium, his gaze sweeping the lecture hall.

"If you\'re looking for simple sparring practice, you\'re in the wrong place. This course will test your mana control under extreme conditions and teach you to recalibrate on the fly."

He turned to the board and wrote in bold; \'Dynamic Mana Compression, Kinetic Circuit Recalibration, Resonant Pulse Generation.\'

"Each of these techniques is designed to push the limits of mana and circuit usage. Most duelists can hold their own in a straightforward battle. But you—"

He gestured toward the class

"—Will need to master combat maneuvers that merge physical precision with tactical mana management."

Elliot\'s gaze lingered on Brandon, a slight smirk playing on his lips.

"I see we have a celebrity here."

Brandon kept his face neutral, his expression giving nothing away. He wasn\'t about to entertain whatever Elliot was hinting at.

However, it was fairly obvious he was talking about the event that had just transpired two months ago.

The Sanctum of Trials.

In fact, throughout the start of the second semester, none of the students had spoken about the trial.

But there were topics regarding Evelyn.

Raven was keenly taking down notes as the lecture progressed. Surprisingly, so too, did Claire.

None of them spoke about the breakup, thankfully.

In any case, they cleared the room and headed for the training hall.

In the training hall, Elliot wasted no time. He strode up to the board, where he\'d already written a few words: Precision, Mana Flow, Endurance.

"These three pillars will be our focus today. Each is essential, and each will be tested under pressure."

He pointed at Precision.

"I\'m not talking about basic accuracy. We\'ll be working on reducing your margin of error to practically nothing."

All of a sudden, his gaze met with Elliot\'s.

"Brandon Locke."

He called, gesturing for him to step forward.

"We all know you\'ve got experience, so why don\'t you show us what flawless precision looks like?"

Brandon nodded his head and kept his expression neutral, stepping forward with his sword in hand.

He took a breath, tuning out the murmurs from his classmates.

At the moment, he was alone with his thoughts.

"Precision, huh?"n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

He whispered to himself.

He had already engraved Evelyn\'s teachings in his head.

He moved in a swift, controlled motion, his sword slicing through the air with barely a sound.

His breathing was steady. Every shift of his weight, every turn of his wrist, had purpose.

One swing flowed into the next, his blade moving in a precise rhythm. The memory of Evelyn\'s voice in his mind guided him.

As he finished the demonstration, Brandon looked up, catching a hint of approval in Elliot\'s eyes.

"Good."

"Mhm."

He nodded once and stepped back

Elliot addressed the class.

"That\'s the level of precision you\'re expected to aim for."

Brandon\'s mind drifted back to the training hall, where each lesson from Evelyn was engraved through long hours of practice.

He wasn\'t sure if he could pick up anything new from this class—after all the rigorous training he\'d endured over the past few months.

However, with Elliot\'s reputation as a skilled ranker specializing in duelist techniques, gaining insights from a fresh perspective was more than worthwhile.

While confident in his firepower, he needed techniques as well.

As Elliot stepped back, he gestured for the rest of the students to begin.

"Now, I want each of you to incorporate your mana and affinity into every strike."

The class moved into their own stances.

Some students\' weapons glowed with fire, while others shimmered with wind, water, or earth elements.

Magic circles filled the training hall at the moment, and the sound of sword swinging echoed.

Brandon focused on his own affinity, channeling his [Curse] mana into his blade.

While he wanted to focus on his [Permafrost] affinity, it wasn\'t time to unveil it yet.

It was much better to keep his trump card hidden.

To his side, Raven\'s dagger emanated a dark [Shadow].

Elliot walked through the rows of students, observing and correcting as he went.

He paused near Amelia, who was working on something else.

Elliot\'s brows raised, noticing the complexity of her attack.

"I see you\'ve studied in advance."

Amelia gave a slight nod, focusing intently. She was working on integrating Quidell\'s Theorem into her circuit structure.

Elliot tilted his head, clearly intrigued. He could tell it was something far more advanced than typical duelist techniques, but he wasn\'t familiar with it.

"What exactly is this technique you\'re working on?"

He asked with curious eyes.

"It looks like a highly complex circuit alignment, far beyond the standard earth or wind manipulations I usually see."

"It\'s a theoretical structure known as Quidell\'s Theorem."

"Quidell\'s theorem…. You mean Arcanius Quidell from Milis?"

Amelia gave a quick nod.

"Yes, Arcanius Quidell. His work in Milis focused on advanced circuit layering and mana efficiency. His theorem is designed to increase casting speed without sacrificing control."

Elliot\'s brows rose.

"Impressive. Not a common approach around here. Quite ambitious…."

Amelia managed a small smile, keeping her focus on the mana flow.

"It\'s challenging. I\'ve been trying to adapt it for earth–aligned magic, but it\'s tricky."

Elliot observed her closely.

"A demanding path, but worthwhile. Your casting could reach levels most duelists can only hope for."

Brandon stared at them and frowned, but quickly dismissed his thoughts and focused on his own rhythm.

"Focus on refining, not just power."

He reminded himself quietly.

The class continued on until the bell rang.

They were all dismissed soon after. However, as he was about to leave, he noticed Amelia and Elliot conversing.

"...."

They hadn\'t stopped talking for a while now, and Brandon couldn\'t help but glance subtly each time.

For some reason, it irked him. But still, they had broken–up already, he had no other choice but to endure anyone approaching Amelia.

"....Annoying."
